Upholstery Cleaning in Athens, AL

KEEP IT CLEAN SERVICES
Done by an IICRC-certified, family-owned Athens crew since 2002.
AT A GLANCE
- We clean couches, sectionals, recliners and chairs right in your home.
- Before we start, we read the fabric tag and test a hidden spot so the method fits the material.
- Most furniture is ready to sit on the same day, and you get a written price before any work begins.
Keep It Clean Services does upholstery cleaning in Athens, AL for homes, churches and businesses across North Alabama. Your couch takes more daily wear than almost anything in the house. It soaks up body oils, food, drinks, pet hair and the red clay that comes in on shoes. Our IICRC-certified crew has cleaned furniture in Athens since 2002.
Furniture we clean
We clean upholstered furniture of every size, in your home:
- Sofas, couches and loveseats
- Sectionals, including large pieces with many bases and cushions
- Recliners and lift chairs
- Dining chairs and office chairs
- Church pews and waiting room seating
A local church wrote in a Google review that we did "an exceptional job cleaning our church's carpet and the church pew's upholstery." If you also need carpet done, see our carpet cleaning service and book both in one visit.
What upholstery cleaning gets out
- Body oils that darken arms, headrests and seat cushions
- Food, coffee, soda and juice spills
- Pet hair, dander and pet odor
- Red clay and dirt ground into the fabric
- Musty smells from damp or water damage
One customer told us we got "tons of red dirt" off their couches and that they "look brand new." Another had a sectional damaged by a shower leak upstairs, with discoloration and a strong odor, and wrote that we brought it back.
How we clean your furniture
- Look and quote. We check each piece, point out problem spots and give you a written price.
- Read the tag. The cleaning code on the fabric tag tells us what the fabric can take.
- Test a hidden spot. We test our method on a spot nobody sees before we touch the rest.
- Pre-treat and clean. Spots get the treatment that fits them, then we clean the whole piece.
- Dry and check. We set the piece up to dry and walk through the results with you.
Why the fabric tag matters
Most furniture has a cleaning code on a tag under the cushions or the frame. W means water-based cleaning is safe. S means solvent cleaning only. W/S means either one works. X means vacuum only. Using the wrong method can shrink fabric, leave rings or bleed colors. That is why we read the tag and test a spot first. If you want tips for between visits, read our guide on how to clean a fabric couch.

Questions about upholstery cleaning
How long does upholstery take to dry?
Most furniture is ready to sit on the same day we clean it. Drying time depends on the fabric, how thick the cushions are, how dirty the piece was and the humidity in your home. North Alabama summers can slow drying down. Running the air conditioning or a ceiling fan helps a lot. Thick sectional cushions take longer than a thin dining chair seat. We tell you before we leave when each piece should be ready, and we set it up so air can move around it while it dries.
Can you clean my couch in my home?
Yes. We clean upholstery right in your living room, so there is nothing to load up or haul away. We bring our equipment to your door and work around your other furniture. We protect the floor under the piece while we clean it. Most customers add couch cleaning to a carpet cleaning visit, so the whole room gets done at once. Our crew moves light items as needed and puts everything back where it was before we leave. You just need to be home to let us in.
What do the letters on my furniture tag mean?
The letter is a cleaning code from the furniture maker. W means the fabric can be cleaned with water-based products. S means it needs a solvent cleaner and no water. W/S means either type is safe. X means the fabric should only be vacuumed or brushed, not wet cleaned. The tag is usually under a cushion or under the frame. We always read it before we clean, then test a hidden spot, so the method we use fits your fabric and does not cause shrinking or color bleeding.
Can you get pet odor out of a couch?
Often, yes. Pet odor in a couch usually comes from accidents, drool or oils that soak into the cushions and the padding inside. We treat the odor at the source instead of covering it with perfume, then clean the whole piece. Fresh accidents come out more easily than old ones that soaked deep for months. If the smell is in your carpet too, our pet stain and odor removal service can treat both on the same visit. We tell you honestly what to expect before we start.
Will cleaning remove all the stains?
Most everyday stains come out, including food, drinks, dirt and body oils. Some stains are harder. Ink, dye, bleach spots and stains that were set with heat or harsh cleaners may lighten but not fully disappear. Old stains that sat for years can also leave a shadow. We look at each stain during the walk-through and tell you what we expect before we start, so there are no surprises. If a cleaned area is not right, our guarantee covers a re-clean within 7 days of the visit.
How often should upholstery be cleaned?
For most homes, once every year or two keeps furniture looking good and smelling fresh. Homes with pets, small kids or allergies do better with cleaning more often, because dander, spills and oils build up faster. Furniture that gets daily use, like the family couch or a favorite recliner, needs it more than a formal living room chair. A good time is right after a busy season, such as the holidays, or along with your carpet cleaning so the whole room is clean at once.
Is your upholstery cleaning safe for kids and pets?
Yes. We use eco-friendly cleaning solutions and rinse the fabric clean, so no sticky residue is left behind for little hands or paws. Before we start, we check the tag and test the fabric, so we use the gentlest method that will still get the piece clean. Keep pets and kids off the furniture while it dries. Once it is dry, the whole family can use it again. If anyone in your home has allergies or a sensitive skin condition, tell us and we will walk you through our process.
Do you clean commercial furniture?
Yes. We clean seating for churches, offices, waiting rooms and other businesses around Athens. A church wrote in a Google review that we cleaned both their carpet and their pew upholstery and left everything clean and organized. For businesses, we work evenings and weekends, so you do not have to close your doors. If you need regular cleaning for the whole building, ask about our janitorial cleaning service. Call us and tell us how many pieces you have, and we will put a written quote together.
Do I need to do anything before you arrive?
Just clear off the furniture: pillows you do not want cleaned, blankets, toys, remotes and anything in the cushion cracks. If you know the cause of a stain, like coffee or a pet accident, tell us when we arrive, because it helps us pick the right treatment. Please do not try strong store cleaners on a spot right before we come, since some leave residue that makes stains harder to remove. Pets should be in another room while we work. We take care of the rest.
