Pet Stain and Odor Removal in Athens, AL

Carpet after stain removal, Keep It Clean, Athens, AL

KEEP IT CLEAN SERVICES

Done by an IICRC-certified, family-owned Athens crew since 2002.

AT A GLANCE

  • We treat pet urine at the source with an odor treatment that breaks it down, then rinse it out with hot water extraction.
  • That removes the stain and the smell instead of covering them with perfume.
  • If an accident soaked into the pad, it may need extra treatment, and we tell you up front.

Keep It Clean Services does pet stain and odor removal in Athens, AL and across North Alabama. Pets are family, but their accidents can soak through carpet and keep smelling long after you scrub the top. Store sprays often cover the smell for a day or two. Our IICRC-certified crew has been getting pet accidents out of Athens carpet since 2002.

Why pet odor keeps coming back

Pet urine is a liquid when it lands, but it does not stay on top of the carpet. It runs down the fibers into the backing and often into the pad. As it dries, it leaves salts and residue behind. Those salts pull moisture out of the air, which is why the smell comes back strong on humid North Alabama days, even when the spot looks clean.

Scrubbing the top or spraying a scent does not reach that residue. To remove the odor, the treatment has to get as deep as the urine went, and then the residue has to be rinsed out.

How we remove pet stains and odor

  1. Find the spots. We walk the room with you and mark every spot you know about.
  2. Treat at the source. Each spot gets a pet odor treatment that breaks down the urine.
  3. Hot water extraction. We rinse the carpet with hot water and pull the dirty water, residue and treatment back out.
  4. Check the deep spots. Accidents that soaked into the pad may need extra treatment. We tell you before we do it.
  5. Dry. Most carpet is dry in about 2 hours.

One customer wrote in a Google review: "My senior dog had an accident on my carpet. I tried to clean it myself without relief. Keep It Clean came out next day and was able to clean up her accident and get rid of the smell!"

Carpet, couches and rugs

Pets do not stay on the carpet. If your dog or cat sleeps on the couch or has a favorite rug, the smell can live there too. We treat pet spots on:

Doing them all in one visit keeps the smell from moving from one spot to another.

What to do before we arrive

Blot fresh accidents with a dry towel and do not rub. Skip strong store cleaners and steam from a home machine, since heat can set the stain and some products leave residue that holds odor. Our guide on how to get urine smell out of carpet explains why.

Questions about pet stain and odor removal

Can you get pet urine smell out of carpet?

Yes, in most cases. The smell comes from urine that soaked below the surface and left salts and residue behind. We treat each spot at the source with a pet odor treatment that breaks the urine down. Then we rinse the carpet with hot water extraction and pull the residue back out. That removes the cause of the smell instead of covering it with a scent. Accidents that went all the way into the pad can take extra treatment, and we tell you that before we start.

Why does the pet smell come back when it rains?

Dried urine leaves salts in the carpet and pad. Those salts pull moisture out of the air. On humid days, or when it rains, the residue gets damp again and the smell comes back, sometimes stronger than before. That is why a spot can look clean and smell fine in dry weather, then smell again in the summer. Removing the odor means rinsing that residue out, not just drying the top. Our process treats the spot at the source and then extracts the residue with hot water.

Will the stain come out completely?

Most fresh and recent pet stains come out completely. Older stains are harder. Urine that sat for months can change the color of the carpet fibers, and some dyes, like those in light or wool carpet, react with it. In those cases the odor usually goes away even if a faint mark stays. We look at every spot during the walk-through and tell you what we expect. If a cleaned area is not right, our guarantee covers a re-clean when you call within 7 days.

Does home cleaning make pet stains worse?

Sometimes it does. Heat from a home steam machine can set the protein in urine and make the stain permanent. Some store sprays leave a sticky residue that grabs new dirt and holds odor. Rubbing a fresh spot pushes urine deeper and spreads it wider. The best thing you can do is blot a fresh accident with a dry towel, use cool water if anything, and call us. Our baking soda guide explains what home fixes can and cannot do.

What if the urine soaked into the pad?

Urine that soaks through the carpet often reaches the pad underneath, and that is where much of the odor hides. Cleaning only the top of the carpet will not reach it. We treat the spot deeper and rinse it out, and some spots take extra treatment to get to the pad. We tell you up front when a spot looks like it went that deep, so you know what to expect before the work begins. If you have an older pet with many accidents, mention it when you call so we can plan.

Are your products safe for my pets?

Yes. We use eco-friendly cleaning solutions and rinse them out of the carpet with hot water extraction, so no sticky residue stays behind. Pets can go back on the carpet as soon as it is dry, which is usually in about 2 hours. Keep them in another room while we work and while the carpet dries. If your pet has a health condition or allergies, tell us when you book and we will walk you through the products and the process before we start the job.

How fast can you come out?

Next-day appointments are usually available. The sooner we treat a fresh accident, the better the result, because urine has less time to soak in and dry into the fibers. Call or text (256) 431-3226 and tell us what happened, which rooms are involved and whether the spots are on carpet, a couch or a rug. We will give you a time and a clear price. Our office hours are Monday through Friday 9 to 5 and Saturday 10 to 3.

Can you remove pet odor from a couch?

Yes. Pet odor in furniture usually comes from accidents, drool and oils that soak into the cushions. We treat the odor at the source and then clean the whole piece. Before we start, we read the fabric tag and test a hidden spot so the method fits the material. Most furniture is ready to sit on the same day. See our upholstery cleaning page for more about how we clean couches, recliners and chairs. Many customers book carpet and couch together.

Do you treat pet stains on area rugs?

Yes. Area rugs often take the worst of pet accidents because pets like to lie on them. Rugs need care that fits the fiber, especially wool and patterned rugs, so we check the material and test the colors before we treat the spots. We also set up drying so the rug and the floor under it both stay safe. Our area rug cleaning page covers how we clean rugs. Tell us about the pet spots when you call, and we will plan for them.

Do you serve areas outside Athens?

Yes. Our shop is on East Pryor Street in Athens, and we remove pet stains and odors across Limestone County and North Alabama. That includes Decatur, Madison, Huntsville, Hartselle, Tanner and Elkmont. If you are near Athens and not sure we cover your area, call (256) 431-3226 and ask. Many customers pair this service with a full carpet cleaning or a tile and grout cleaning so the whole house is done in one visit. Next-day appointments are usually available, and the sooner we treat a fresh spot the better.
